This is Rico.
First, he hooked me with a shy little happy tail. Then, he reeled me in with his tractor beam stare.
Then, he wrapped his scrawny legs around my neck and showed me the underbite.
How could I say no? Hopefully, he'll be joining our family this weekend. He's getting over kennel cough. He's skin and bones. He doesn't make a sound. He has every reason to be defensive and wary of humans, but he's loving and sweet. We'll never know his story - he was rescued from a high-kill shelter just a few days ago; his time was up. He's about 2-3 years old. That's all we know.
We're going to take Bella to the shelter on Friday and introduce them. Keep your fingers crossed that they get along :))
And we visited One-eyed Jack, the pirate BT. He was as cute as hell but he has to stay separated from the other dogs because he just wanted to fight. He's a favorite at the shelter as is actually pretty spoiled. I'll get some pix when we go back to visit Rico.
I have to say, going to the shelter was a really positive experience. Most of the dogs were really well socialized. They were playing and seemed happy and healthy. I guess what I'm say is, if you have stayed away from visiting or volunteering at a shelter because you think your heart would break, it's not necessarily so. This one is a friendly, loving place. I was very pleasantly surprised.
