My creation

I just read this in a magazine! I had no idea. The macadamia nuts can cause paralysis and the grapes/raisins can cause renal failure. The weird thing about the grapes is, vets have no idea why.

I am feeling: gratefulgrateful

Everytime I see your nick, I think it's a person on my f-list- only, her nick is white_aster.
*laughs*
I guess it's a nice flower, then? ;-)

I have given my guys grapes also, they just try to pop them, then leave them to be stepped on.

whoa, thanks for sharing this. i am guilty of giving the boys people treats and this will help me stop! good thing none of my pups have ever liked grapes. lunchbox would just roll it around on the carpet and then leave it to rot, hahah.

Oh wow, I didn't know that, but it is REALLY good to know, as Max Moo loves oatmeal raisin cookies- I make a sugar free type of dough because of this- I thought that was better for her. :-(
This will make her sad, but...I am REALLY glad that someone posted this before something bad happened.
Miss Poisonality: cuzdulamae on July 17th, 2006 04:22 pm (UTC)
ya, I am sure the chances are slim, but I don't care if its 1 in a million, I wouldnt want it to happen to anybody's pup!

Not like most people feed their dogs this, but rhubarb and onions should also not be fed to dogs.
We just avoid the whole question by never feeding our dogs 'people' food.
Sara Rae: LUCY AND DROIDSsarakenobi on July 17th, 2006 01:08 pm (UTC)
omg, I heard about the grapes/raisins last year and was like "WHOA!" because Lucy LOVE LOVE LOVES grapes. I keep telling everyone I know, but I have this @sshole friend who doesn't believe me because "his dog ate grapes every day and died of unrelated causes". GREAT! keep feeding your other dogs that buster, I'll not give them to Lucy!

don't forget about onions too, if you didn't know they cause anemia. and for some reason onion powder is in some dog foods (I know IAMS had it in there for awhile, and with all my issues with IAMS.... bah)

my guys love to destroy grapes, I don't think any parts ever actually made it into their stomachs. plenty got smashed into the floor, though.
Sara Raesarakenobi on July 17th, 2006 09:57 pm (UTC)
they just practiced making wine!

Yeah I remember that thread! Also to add to the list is tomatoes. I forget what they do, but they're bad, and Roxie and Kahlua love(d) tomatoes!
Sara Raesarakenobi on July 17th, 2006 09:58 pm (UTC)
ew! i don't like tomatoes! they can cause anemia too I guess.
Jennastridlynn on July 17th, 2006 02:13 pm (UTC)
I've heard that it's only the grape skins (something about the tannins?), not the whole grape.
Miss Poisonality: cuzdulamae on July 17th, 2006 04:23 pm (UTC)
ya the article didn't go into much detail, especially since the vets don't know why it happens.
