Breeder Puppy vs Adopted Adult...

So my husband and I keep going back and forth about which would be better. We already adopted Harmony, who's 4 and we love her to death. We were going to adopt another young piggy, but the adoption agencies we've been contacting don't seem to want to contact us back. Now, we considering buying a puppy from a breeder because we'd really love a red and white boston, but we have some concerns. One is that we just really love the idea of helping a dog in need, plus Harmony was perfect becasue she came house trained and everything. No biting/chewing stages or anything like that. I guess my question is what are some other pros and cons of buying vs adopting? How much work are puppies? How much time should we be home? I'll be student teaching this year, so I'll have a lot on my plate, but I should be home every day by 3. My husband doesn't get home until 6. I'm just trying to weigh all the options. Also, if we decide to go with a breeder what types of things should we be asking? How can we be sure it's not a puppymill? I know puppies are a lot of work, but when I look at pics online they're hard to resist. Thanks in advance!

We sent an application to www.midwestbtrescue.org (where we got harmony) and for this guy http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=6821816 (isn't he oh so cute??), but still have yet to hear from them.

Can anyone recommend any rescue sites other than midwest or petfinder.com?
