I have an older german shepherd and a friendly cat (likes dogs). I lost my saint bernard to old age this summer and didn't think I'd get another dog as I really like the maintenance of just one dog but the more I read up on Boston Terriers the more I think this might be a good breed for my family.
All the internet research in the world isn't going to tell me what real life owners can tell me about owning a Boston Terrier. Are they typically more hyper or mellow? How well do they do with other pets, etc. Basically what advice do you have and what type of environments/owners would you suggest not get a Boston Terrier?
Little more background - my home is two adults with children possibly in the future 2-3 years down the road, large fenced yard but my dog spends most of her time indoors, we're home most of the time, have a dog sitter when we take vacations, my german shepherd plays with a cat all day so she understands how to be gentle with animals smaller, the cat on the other hand can be aggressive, I prefer female pets, no desire to have a show dog, loved owning a saint bernard but after 11 years of cleaning drool and constant vacuuming I'm leaning toward lower maintenance dogs.
Also I've only owned large dogs, I'm a little hesitant with little dogs because I have it set in my stubborn head that they're more difficult to potty train. Are they a fairly easy breed to potty train?
(Yes, I get not all dogs are alike and there's always an exception, just hoping for the general consensus).
Thanks for any advice! I don't want to buy a dog on impulse and find out it's not a good fit.
