:-(
So once again, I'm posting about a little issue we have again with Violet.
Jerry and I went to the gym and then out to lunch....we come home to find his change missing off the table.
Violet jumped on top of our kitchen table and ate 8-9 coins. We had pushed it back towards the middle by a bowl not thinking anything would happen. So we made her an appt. to take her to the vet for an xray (i got there 45 minutes early) and it did come back that she has coins in her tummy. It looks like there are about 5 quarters and 1-2 pennies. We have surgery scheduled for tomorrow, but I'm already a nervous wreck because of her heart condition. Jerry and the vet talked about it and they said she'll be fine but I'm so scared of losing her. She got ahold of my mom's glasses too and even broke off a nosepiece, and thank God she didn't eat that.....but I just can't believe she had that many coins. The pennies were the vet's concern, but she said she'd be fine with the surgery being so early tomorrow morning. I just hope she doesn't have issues with the quarters in the mean time.

The vet said it's common, and I understand it's a simple surgery...I just don't want any seizures again or any other issues...I want my baby to be okay....it's fall in Cincinnati and this is the time where we drive around with the windows down and she can just enjoy the air blowing in her face.

Has any of this happened to any of your babies? The vet was telling us about a dog she sees that has had to have 5 surgeries because he keeps eating socks..... :-\

I'm so nervous for this surgery...I was scared when she got spayed....
I have been bawling since I got home and I have to go to Papyrus and close the store tonight, so I'm hoping I don't just randomly break down...we have 2 Boston terrier cards so I'm afraid I might. :-(

Oh my goodness! Winston has eaten weird things before, but no money... I don't think.
Best wishes to your little baby! I'm sure she will be just fine :D

I know this is not a time for giggling but I have to wonder what on earth she was thinking -- coins don't taste that good at all! I am sure she will be fine, please keep us posted on what happens, and uh... don't let her near the piggy bank for awhile. :) She will be fine!

i know! i don't understand what went through her mind. I'm praying she'll be fine and I'm praying to make that update tomorrow that she'll be fine.

Our little guy Airborne are a finishing stud and it just shot out his butt! She'll be fine; if she was really at risk, your Vet would not perform the surgery.

Thank you :-)

I get scared too! My Rudy just had some surgery and I was worried sick until he was done. It's such a relief when it's over and they're fine!

We're thinking of you and Violet (that rascal!)

Thank you for your thoughts...it really helps :-)

I'm sending positive thoughts and good wishes your way! Daisy eats EVERYTHING. She recently passed a piece of plastic the size of my thumb, hard plastic. A clock broke and I thought I had all the pieces but I guess she ate it. I keep thinking what might have happened if she hadn't passed it; and I wouldn't have known... until too late. I'm so sad that Violet is having the surgery but I know she'll be fine, she's got a great family taking care of her. Dogs are so weird, eh?

OH NO! I'm so happy she was okay!!!
Aww thanks! Jerry was actually a little upset in the office b/c he asked the vet, "are we just bad parents?" and I think this whole thing is really getting to him...b/c it was his change he left on the table...but I also left the chair out a little, so it's not really anyone's fault...yes, dogs are soo weird.

Awe Violet! She will be fine! She'll probably poop some change out before she even has surgery!

Maybe you should crate her when you leave?
C.a.t.h.i.e: Drops on Leaf_simplyinlove on September 30th, 2008 11:32 pm (UTC)
I'm hoping she does! It's now 11:30pm here and she's pooped but no change...it's making me nervous. :-\

I thought about crating her but I just hate doing that. I think we're going to get baby gates and just seclude them to a smaller area b/c this can't keep happening. I'll have a stroke.

Lulu LOVED her crate. So did Onyx. They both would go in them on their time just to hang out. Clemmie seems to like hers too.

I wonder if it's Pica? I've heard that animals can suffer from that too. If this isn't the first time she's eaten weird things, I'd say she needs to be tested for anemia, which is what usually causes it.

I hope the surgery went well!

Lorindasweetdemonica on October 2nd, 2008 12:11 am (UTC)
Ive also heard of dogs having pica. it seems very odd for a dog to actually eat that many coins.
I wonder why the vet was really concerned about the pennies more so then the quarters...

Large amounts of copper can be toxic. I don't think the cupro-nickel they use on other coins is.
