Chew Toys
Can anyone recommend a good chew toy? Chili goes through a rawhide bone in about a half hour and since they can't digest rawhide that well, I need a good alternative. A Nyla-bone? A hunk of tree? A brick?

jack is a hard chewer and one of his favorite toys is a set of keys that nyla-bone makes. there's a plastic ring and three different colored keys. he's gone through 4 sets but they hold up really well. we should get stock in the nyla-bone company!

also, the kong toys hold up really well. he especially likes those when we put treats inside. it can keep him busy for awhile. :)

I have used nylabones...and kongs....there is also a bone (I think it is from nylabone)...hard as a freaking rock....stella loves it and has not chewed through it yet...(WARNING**** Stella loves to throw it down the stairs and it makes my heart leap most of the time because it sounds like someone is falling down the stairs...be forewarned!)

I will try and see the maker of the bone next time I am at AGWAY....

I think you're talking about the Nylabone Rhinobone. They used to only make them HUGE (for pitbulls and such) but recently came out with small ones. My Ellie loves it and can't get through it hard as she tries.

(I work at a pet store, and chewed on one myself yesterday. It's HARD!)

Annie likes mostly 'interactive' toys like plastic balls/cloth/rope toys that she can play tug and chase with me. For a hard chew, she'll occasionally get a rawhide or small real bone she has but when she really gets in the mood to settle down and chew, she seems to prefer cloth type of things she can pull on... she especially loves to get an old towel and chew on the label attached to them ;)

Definitely go for a nylabone, kong or sterile white bone(the white ones don't have any wierd stuff they use to baste them to make them brown). Make sure you get the right chew strength of nylabone for your dog - all of them are good (from the Galileo to the dentabones). But the edible ones get gummy and stick all over the place. Kongs and Sterile White Bones are good because you can stick stuff in them and it gives them lots of mental stimulation (how do i get this stuff out) too.
(btw - I work at a vet hospital and these are the only 3 chew toys we recommend also.)

paxil's favorite things the in whole entire world are greenies. when he's getting rowdy and we need a break, we just break out a greenie and he's good as gold!...he takes it to his little blanket and chews for hours. he goes thru one in about 2-3 days, so we keep lots on hand.

Definatly the kong. That's the only thing that my babies (now a year old) will chew on... they want that peanut butter cookie that's inside!!!
