Macy 2000-2009
After writing my last entry about seizures in Boston's, I went back downstairs to be with her while my parents were sleeping. At about 2AM she started having another one, and from the time between then and about an hour ago (9AM) she had a series of multiple seizures. If added together, probably totaled around the 15 mark or so. She would have a bad one, and then two smaller ones, and then another bad one. This went on till we took back to the vet once they opened, at 9. They brought us immediately in, and told us that it does not look good. For a small dog like that to have so many dramatizing seizures in such a short amount of time, does awful things to their brain, heart, and other organs. She's been going to this vet since she was a puppy, so we know and trust their judgement. It was extremely hard. EXTREMELY hard. But we had to do the humane thing. Poor little Macy went to sleep at 9:30am this morning.

She will be missed very much. I can't think about trying to figure out how to put pictures up of her right now but I will soon.

I think I'm still in shock.

She was only 9 years old.

Same for our family Mastiff
Charlie was 8 when it happened. He had seizures only since he was maybe 6-7. One night they wouldn't stop. my parents stayed w/ him to calm him and finally got him to the vet. he was gone in an hour. pee all over the place and many problems.

it was best. he had a long life for a big dog, was a gentle giant and is still one of the family favorites. it took almost another year before they got another dog, a champagne great dane from a rescue service. she had similar problems lasting a year after going blind.

frankly, i think so much of it has to do w/ the food we feed them. it is part of why mine only get raw and natural anything. at 7 & almost 9, my rescue pugs don't look nor act their age.

blessings to you... and Macy!

god that is horrible. 9 is so young. Do they know what caused it? has she ever had seizures before?

I am so so sorry for your loss.

I'm so very sorry. I know what its like to lose a beloved pet suddenly. I just had to put my boys' baby sister, Autumn, our great dane down last month because she had an extremely aggressive type of bone cancer in her skull.

Your baby is no longer in pain, & though she's not with you now, she went with you by her side & she felt loved. Remember that.

Not fair! She was only 9 years old!! They shouldn't go that young.

I am so sorry for your loss :-(
Violet has had two seizures due to stress and it's more painful on us to watch than on them to actually have them, but I'm sure in her case it was hard on her body. You did the right thing by giving her peace of whatever was afflicting her. She will be surely missed and we're all thinking about you. Please let us know if there is anything we can do at all.

Deepest sympathy for your loss. No matter how old they are, we don't have enough time with them.

Til you meet again at the Rainbow Bridge...

I am so sorry for your loss and glad you had even a few more minutes to spend with Macy before the end, I am sure she needed your comfort during such a rough time, she will be missed.

Thank you all for your kind words. They really did help. Now seeing the cute little puppy BT pictures on the sidebar here.. those aren't helping quite as much! :)

To make a sad day, even, well, much worse. At 4pm, my wife got a phone call from her mom saying that her brother was having trouble breathing. So we rushed to the house to try to convince him to go the hospital. He had so much breathing problems getting into our car, we had to call 911.

25 minutes later, he died of cardiac arrest.

All in the same, miserable, day.

oh no, I'm so very sorry..this is tragic and so unfair
very sad about your brother in law..I never understand why these things have to happen. Your baby was very loved and I'm sure had a wonderful life with you. Do they know what caused seizures?

Deedee, Sam and I send our condolences. This was a terrible event, but don't ever let it discourage you from having another Boston in the future.

Much Love

Sorry for both of your losses.
My Chow mix had major seizures one night at 3:30 a.m. Our vet met us at his office at 5 a.m. He was having grand mal seizures and loss control of his bladder and kidneys. Come to find out he had a high temperature, infection somewhere and his thyroid was low. The vet gave him an antibiotic and seizure medication for a week. He was fine after this and has not had a seizure since. Our dog is 8 or 9 years old and a rescue from the Humane Society. Our Boston is also a rescue. Take care.
