Churchill is getting older....

Churchill is now 5 months old. He is a moose! He weighs around 20 lbs. I don't think he knows his own strength! He thinks he can still curl up on my chest to sleep, like he did when he 6 weeks old. How big can Boston's get?????

AKC recognizes Boston Terriers up to 25 lbs.

He is a beast!

Thanks for the info. That is what I thought I had read before. I hope he doesn't get much bigger.

Boston size
I am not an expert, but I think Bostons come in 3 weight categories, small (under 15) medium (15-20) and large (20-25), although a friend of mine had a perfectly healthy Boston boy who weighed about 29 pounds. Gambit (my male) is almost 3 years old. He was the only one in his litter and was always bulky; currently, he is a hefty 24.5 pounds (and I know what you mean about sitting on the chest!), but I believe he is overweight and should likely be about 22 pounds. Daisy, my girl, was the wee one in her litter of 8; she just turned one at the start of April and she is about 14.5 pounds, and likely not to get much bigger, the vet says. Gambit hovered at 21 pounds for most of his puppy hood. I hope that helps! I'd say if he is already 20 pounds at 5 months, he'll probably get a bit bigger, but I can't predict how big!

Re: Boston size
A litter of 8? I thought Boston's only came in litter's of 1 or 2?

Re: Boston size
LOL I meant to type 6. And it's possible that it was two litters combined, although if so, then they would have been born like within one or two days of each other. 2 boys 4 girls.

Re: Boston size
definitely not. i'm pretty sure yorkies or other tiny toy breeds can only have 1 or 2 though... it probably depends mostly on the size of the dam. most litters i have seen have about 5, but i have seen bostons have singleton litters and litters with 9 puppies!

Re: Boston size
Thank you for the insight into weight for Bostons. I hope he doesn't get much bigger. I like the size of the Boston. I think they are the perfect house dog, without being too large or too small. I am going to officially weigh him tonight and really see. He has big paws and just looks very stocky right now with very loose skin that he will probably grow into. Again, thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

They can get up to 40 Lbs depending on how big the parents were. My little guy is barely 15. He's almost a year and he still sleeps on my belly. :-D
sportma2sportma2 on June 2nd, 2009 11:31 pm (UTC)
OMG!!!! I hope he does not get close to 40 lbs. That would be awful for Frenchie my other Boston! The puppy already picks on him.

he's adorable. I have seen bts as big as 35 pounds! and as small as 9 or 10 full grown
sportma2sportma2 on June 2nd, 2009 11:31 pm (UTC)
It is hard to believe that he only weighed 4 lbs. when I got him. But..... his paws are huge!!!

I've had a Boston as big as 28 pounds (and he wasn't overweight) and as small as ten pounds. There is some variance from the breed standard. Sounds like you're going to have a big boy!
sportma2sportma2 on June 2nd, 2009 11:32 pm (UTC)
Churchill is not overweight, but he is very stocky right now. I hope he doesn't get much over 28 lbs., if that!!!

He is so adorable! It cracks me up that you called him a moose!
My Tuffy is 32 lbs.
sportma2sportma2 on June 2nd, 2009 11:34 pm (UTC)
Oh my gosh! 32 lbs.!!! Churchill does look "moosey" if that is a word. He is very stocky, but has adorable amber eyes.

Fizzgig is 5 yrs old and weighs 18 lbs. But I've seen bostons as big as 40 lbs.
sportma2sportma2 on June 2nd, 2009 11:35 pm (UTC)
People have posted that he could get as big as 40 lbs.! I hope he doesn't get too bossy with Frenchie.... my black & white Boston.

Love your hair!!!

Rory and Charles are both 25 pounds. Your Churchill looks so much like Charles they could be brothers!
sportma2sportma2 on June 2nd, 2009 11:36 pm (UTC)
If the picture is of Charles.... you are so right! The look very close. I love the ears in your picture. I was wondering if Churchill's ears will perk up and when???
Rory and Charleyseethewizard on June 11th, 2009 11:03 pm (UTC)

It's Rory in my icon. Her ears are straight up. Charles' are still floppy. You can see pictures of him here. Up or down, they're still adorable!

My Charlie is 24 lbs, but both of his parents were closer to 30 lbs. ....he's just a picky eater and always stayed slim, his parents were kind of chunky.

Beautiful coloring, btw!

My staff at my school bought Churchill for me. I never got to see his litter mates (2 others) or the parents. So, his weight will be s surprise.
Ravenvoice: skyravenvoice on June 3rd, 2009 02:38 am (UTC)
as well as the 3 accepted weight classes they do come in a "good lord he's huge" as well. My Sky was a healthy 35 lbs. but he also came just short of my knee. I don't recall how big he was at 5 months.
