Muddy Brown Sclera
Gambit has a muddy sclera - has had it since he was a puppy. The sclera is the white of his eye. His right eye isn't white, it's got a brown patch over most of it. This doesn't seem to affect his vision at all, and the vet has looked at it a few times and while she hasn't told me what it IS, she says it's not harmful.

Essentially, it looks like someone poked the pupil of his eye and his eye leaked brown colour into the white of his eye. Like when you poke an egg. It isn't a "Spot" it's like a leak or stain. From an angle it even takes on a reddish tint. I have had this looked at repeatedly by the vet, and she assures me it's not a concern. I was just wondering if anyone has ever seen this before in a dog?

I'm just curious to know if anyone knows what it is or if anyone has seen a dog with this before. He still sees fine, and though it got more prominent as he grew, it hasn't changed shape or anything in about two years.

It's hard to get a good shot of it since you have to look at his eye at a certain angle to catch the discoloration.

Behind the cut because it needs to be big to show the eye. This was him and baby Daisy about a year ago, it's the best shot of his eye that I have.

I don't know. I was never told. When I asked the vet what it was, she just said "nothing to worry about." But I wondered if it was normal or if it would affect his vision. His eye looks like a fried egg someone poked with a fork, lol.

It's more prominent than my picture would suggest, but again, you have to see it from a certain light to even notice it.

yeah, i think it's within the range of normal. my dog (the one in the picture) is almost 9yo and has fine vision if that's any consolation!

Daisy has it too, we've never thought it was anything to worry about, actually I think most of the bosties in my fam (8) have it too.

Thank you! I was just curious, going through his pictures and seeing this one made me think "gosh, I hope that's normal, it looks so strange!" I couldn't find ANY information about it on the internet, not even a picture, so I'm glad it's normal.

Gambit says thanks, too! :)

Ruby's rocking a rather large discoloration in one of her eyes -- and it doesn't seem to bother her in the least. I've had two different vets look at it and say it's no issue. Just a little quirk, I guess. Most people are usually just mesmerized by her huge tail!

Mason has it too! ive asked all the vets he's come across & they say its "just him"

i have an "eye freckle" too! its just a spot...but masons looks just how you describe it-like his iris leaked.

no worries :)
