So now I have to Hoggy to the vet!
Something must have happened at the dog beach. I noticed he was limping and licking his paws. Between each pad there is pus! His front paws are fire engine red between his toes. The sand was hot but not that hot. My feet got used to it and he was in the water the whole time. Plus Onyx and Clementine's feet are fine.

Anyone had any expierence with this? He can barely walk and everytime I take him out to go potty he comes back in and licks his paws like crazy.

I am taking him to the vet tomorrow.

I am feeling: worriedworried

he has been to the beach many times though... it's not like he's not used to it

That's terrible! Poor Hoggy. Gambit always licks his paws and his paw pads are always inflamed and raw. The vet says he has extra sensitive skin and allergies to many of the things he encounters when out-of-doors (like grass), so his feet are always irritated. It's very sad and frustrating for him, because he likes to run around and play. Is it possible that Hoggie could have run through something floating in the water and had an allergic reaction to it? Maybe something polluted was in the sand or water?

Gambit usually licks his paws because they itch him. We try to wash them with a warm, soft cloth and then we snuggle him up under a blanket until the urge for him to lick passes. Maybe try that with Hoggie? I wouldn't want him licking his paws if he has pus on them...

yeah it makes me think it's something different because of the pus/blisters. i gave him a benadryl and they do look less red. i read somewhere they can get yeast infections in their paws too

Maybe he had an encounter with a jellyfish?

that did cross my mind.. but he never limped at the beach.. or cried.. he just constantly wanted to play

If he on cloud 9 he might not have... Bostons are still Bully breeds and they can override those senses for certain behaviors, usually pleasure or anger.

Our Wilbur didn't cry, yelp, nothing when he had his face bit through at the dog park by a Mastif. Although we know he's hardcore... that still had to hurt!

i am taking him to the vet soon.

is wilbur ok!?! were they playing or was the mastif really trying to hurt him?
Sarah Raesarahrae on August 17th, 2009 09:00 pm (UTC)
They were playing, but he wasn't fixed and Wilbur went to smell his man business and the Mastiff didn't take to kindly to it, turned and bit straight through his face and pinned him to the ground.

Meanwhile, the owner of course wasn't doing anything and I had to pull his dog off mine. Wilbur pranced around for a half hour, staking his claim to every tree in the park afterwards.

didn't he need to stitches then? if he bit through his face?
Sarah Raesarahrae on August 18th, 2009 02:10 am (UTC)
No, we kept the wound clean and it was just far enough away he couldn't lick at it... although bless his heart he tried. It healed right up and he's back out running with the pack!

Pus=infection=antibiotics

My Boxer has severe allergies which cause chronic yeast issues with his paws...redness, inflamation. constant licking, etc, but NEVER pus!

He might have a small cut from glass, or even rocks, but he needs an antibiotic regardless :(

Poor Hoggy :(

Could it be a salt burn? I get salt burns on my skin if I'm in salt water and the UV is high. Another thing that causes super infection is any scrapes from barnacles.
