HOW BIG CAN A BOSTON GET???
Who has the biggest Boston on this site?

I would love to see pictures of other "large" Boston Terriers. I have googled to see how large a Boston gets, but I only see the standard description of 18-24 lbs. Churchill is 9 months old and 38 lbs. I just want to know if this is normal for "some" Boston's. I look at him and question whether he is full blooded or not, but he came with papers. And, I wonder when he will stop growing!!!

Thanks in advance for sharing! I love this site!

38 lbs?!? Picture, please! :o

Mine's just over 22. Pure muscle, though, with gangly long legs.

If you scroll down the main page, I have 4 pictures of Churchill who is 38 lbs. In one picture, he is beside Frenchie (my other Boston) who is 24 lbs. Churchill has huge paws too, which makes me wonder how large he will get. I just wanted to know if others have large Boston's. I was hoping that he would be smaller than Frenchie.... but that didn't happen!

38 lbs? Holy moly. I've never heard of a Boston that big before! Are you sure it's a Boston lol just kidding! What does the vet say about that?
sportma2sportma2 on September 23rd, 2009 04:02 am (UTC)
The vet told me early on that he thought he was going to be a big boy because of his paws. I am scared.... he still has that loose puppy skin to grow into. I stare at him every day just to see if there are signs of any other breed coming through.... but he just looks like an over grown Boston to me. It is hard to think of him as a puppy sometimes!!!

My Sky was deemed perfect at 35 lbs, i don't really have any pics. His Dr thought he was a smidge heavy while 37 and wanted him down to 35, which he was frot e bulk of his life.

Quick story that may answer your question a little better.

I knew he was on the bigger side, i'd just never really have anyting to compare him to. There is an older gentleman in the neighborhood that keeps BTs. Well one day i was walking Sky and ran into the gentleman and his current, Boomner. Boomer was a 22 lbs bad ass. Boomer fit right under Sky's chin. I actualy started to cry. "I've got a mutant Boston" The gentleman told me he's been keeping BT's for somewhere around 50 years and that he'd had several that had gotten that big.

I have read on this site, there are bigger Boston's out there. I just didn't think I'd end up with one! How old is Sky? I don't want Churchill to be so big that he bully's my other Boston, Frenchie. He kinda does now, while playing tug of war with his toys. Thanks for sharing your story. It does make me feel better.

Sky was a big muscular dog.. I lost him 2 years ago, a couple months after he turned 11.

Wilbur is a fit 25 pounds... at his biggest he's been 28 pounds but he got in shape this past month!
sportma2sportma2 on September 23rd, 2009 04:08 am (UTC)
Frenchie, my other Boston is 24 lbs. now. I thought he was big before I got Churchill. When Frenchie gains weight, he gets thick in his neck. But, Churchill is big all over and has loose puppy skin!

I hope this isn't a huge picture, I apologize if it is.
This is Petey and he's 40lbs.

Petey does look like a big boy! Churchill has loose puppy skin and is just stocky. His paws are huge compared to my other Boston Frenchie. Thanks for sharing this photo. There are other big Bostons!!!!!
azwildcatazwildcat on September 23rd, 2009 12:10 pm (UTC)
Yep, he's a big boy who thinks he's as big as our other dog Lucy, a poodle. haha Churchill and Frenchie are adorable!!

One day we met what we thought was a Boston pup, so tiny, no more than 5-8lbs. Apparently he was one of the smallest Boston's ever, because he was five years old. It was so funny to see that little guy and Petey together.

Love your names! My first dog's name was Petey (he was a Sheltie) and by BT's name is Lucy.

WOW! I was expecting a really fat dog, but he's not at all! its amazing how big he is. goodness mine 29lbs hurt enough when they step on me, can't imagine 40lbs!

Elliott is about 30-32 lbs. He gains a little and then loses a little. He's the biggest Boston I know. He had a play date with another Boston and I think the owners were kind of wary of his size since their Boston (girl) was only like 15lbs.
sportma2sportma2 on September 23rd, 2009 04:12 am (UTC)
From what I have read from this site, girls tend to be smaller. Frenchie, my other Boston is 24 lbs. now. I thought he was big, until Churchill came along. Churchill is still all puppy. He plays and bounces around the house. He doesn't know how big he is either!!!
Alanalook_its_alana on September 23rd, 2009 03:38 am (UTC)
At 38 lbs and only 9 months, I think you have the rest of us beat. Are you suuuure Churchill isn't 1/2 BT 1/2 Mastiff? Haha.
sportma2sportma2 on September 23rd, 2009 04:17 am (UTC)
Yep.... I stare at him and wonder if I have a half breed!!!! The staff at my school drove all the way to Alabama to get Churchill (I live in Kentucky). They saw his litter mates, but not his parents. He is a registered Boston Terrier, so I guess he is "abby-normal" (from Young Frankenstein). I keep everyone posted on weight as he gets older. I may have to join the Bull Mastiff site. HaHa.

My Tuffy is 32. At his heaviest, he was around 35ish.

I guess I'm just left wondering "does it really matter how big he gets?" I mean, you won't love him any less because he's a bit hefty - at least, I sure hope you won't love him any less because he gets a bit hefty! Even if he is bigger than your other Boston, that shouldn't really matter either.

Sheba ranges from 25-29 pounds. It is nice to see other "bigger" bostons!
sportma2sportma2 on September 26th, 2009 06:32 pm (UTC)
I love Churchill to death and would never think of giving him up for anything. I just was curious if there were other Bostons that were as large as him at this age. And if he is not full blooded Boston.... that doesn't matter either. I do worry sometimes that he will get so big that he will hurt Frenchie without knowing it. Tuffy is a cute name.
☂ Lydia: buddy upside downzombeats on September 23rd, 2009 04:37 pm (UTC)
Buddy weighs 21 lbs now, when I got him he weighed 24. People sometimes think he is a puppy boxer!!! I don't get that.
sportma2sportma2 on September 26th, 2009 06:33 pm (UTC)
When I got Churchill, not many people had seen a red Boston and didn't know what to make of him either. My brother wanted us to name our other dog Buddy. That is a cute name too.

My boys are 25 and 26lbs. I have recently met one of Ashton's brother's, he is a huge 41 lbs! Bostons (Boston Bulldog Terrier) originally weighed in around 45lbs, they were pit fighters, then they were bred down in size to the insanely awesome dogs they are today. Maybe your guy is just following tradition? Heh. Regardless of his size, big boy or tiny, he is handsome.
sportma2sportma2 on September 26th, 2009 06:36 pm (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know about the Boston Bulldog Terrier. I love Churchill. He is such a puppy in a big form. I would say he is overweight, but his paws are huge and he has loose puppy skin still. It really doesn't matter how large he is, I just wanted to know if others had larger Bostons too. Thanks.

I believe akc says the max the boston should be is 23lbs. There is a breed called the "boston bull" which looks just like a boston terrier but ranges from 25 to 40lbs. Might want to look at this!
sportma2sportma2 on September 26th, 2009 06:38 pm (UTC)
Thanks for the information!!! Churchill must have a little more something.... than other Bostons, that is coming out. I just wanted to know if other Boston owners had big dogs too.
