cherry eyes

I need some advice on cherry eyes.  Petey, who will be 6months old tomorrow (10/11/09) has developed a cherry eye.  It will NOT go back in with massaging it like it does on our other boston.  I opened his eye a little and it looks like whatever was holding it in, has torn.  He's going to the vet monday.  I'm guessing this means surgery...what are your experiances/thoughts with the different types of cherry eye surgery.  Do you have it removed?  Do you just tack it back?  thanks!
