Hematoma after blood is drawn
We took Molly yesterday for her yearly.  They took blood and we immediately noticed a golf ball sized knot on her neck.  She didn't seem fazed and the doctor said it was normal and that it would bruise up.  So we didn't really think too much about it, I mean every time I have blood taken I get softball sized bruises.

This was it yesterday evening:

It's a little dark but nothing too bad, about an inch in length and width.

Here it is this evening

sorry for the crappy picture, but the purple from her neck to the top of her chest is purple, and the knot has traveled down.  It is now about 4 inches long and 2 inches wide.

Has this ever happened to anyone else??  I'm defintely either calling or running her to the vet first thing in the morning.  They said the reason it formed is because the only place they can get a good amount of blood is by taking it from the jugular and it's just like a human that bruises after blood is taken.  But should it be THAT big??

That doesn't look good! Take her to the vet, for sure. Please let us know what they say. Take her to another vet, if you have to...that just doesn't seem right to me.

Poor girl!

I took her to the vet today. The doc took one look at it and said that it was not normal and a good thing I brought her in. He said more than likely it's just that she jerked or something when they were taking blood and it's just blood trapped under the skin. But since she's never had a bleeding problem before they're doing a CBC just to be sure that it is not something wrong with her platelets like an autoimmune disease or perhaps some sort of blood born illness that she could have picked up from a tick or bite of some sort. He is sending her blood off just to make sure. He said they could do it in house but he would rather have someone more familiar (someone who sees this everyday) look at it to be sure. She is doing fine, hyper as ever!

Glad to hear it's not bothering her too much, hope all is well :)
