After his surgery, he did recover and had many happy times. He then ultimately lost all feeling in his hind legs, and we had a cart made for him the enabled him to get around.
The Saturday of Memorial Day weekend he wasn't as excited about eating, and by Monday he was looking - just sad. That's the only way I can describe it. He no longer had sparkle in his eyes and didn't get excited when people were around (the way he always had). His back legs started to really swell by Tuesday morning and he was getting bad bed sores. When the vet was open again on Tuesday we took him in and there was nothing more that we could do. He was 14 and 7 months. I've had him since I was 12 and it's so depressing because it is "the end of an era." That dog was around for every event in my teen/early adult life.
