Molly our 2 and 1/2 year old boston has been able to stay out during the day since right after she turned a year old, she has done so well, no accidents, no chewing problems, nothing.  We got a second boston when we moved into a house and quickly learned that he cannot be left out during the day, needless to say we'll be replacing all of our kitchen furniture and our coffee table when we move because of the chewing.  But, we continued to leave molly out because she does so well.   I wasn't working and was here with her all day and she was only left out when I went somewhere or we were out on the weekend.  This was how it was for almost 9 months.  Well, I started working again in June and we just went back to Petey being in a crate and she was left out in the kitchen, living room, and occasionally the den.  Well, she has either COMPLETELY forgotten not to go in the house, or is just stubborn and pissed because she is alone.  EVERY day there is an "accident".  She goes out every day before my husband leaves and does her business, but EVERY day there is a puddle and or pile somewhere.  She's done it so much that it has messed up the laminate floor in places in the living room and she started scratching at it and has completely torn the floor in one place.  So, this week, we got a baby gate (I don't think she's figured out she could easily jump over it, please don't tell her!  LOL),  and confined her just to the kitchen where it is solid vinyl and it wont hurt anything if pee sits on it.  Well, EVERY day starting Sunday she has pee'd atleast 3 times and left poo every day.

What can we do?!  I REALLY don't want to have to get her a crate and put her up all day, but it seems like this is our only choice.  She is only home about 10 hours a day and our other boston can hold it all day in his crate, so I know that isn't the problem.  If the best thing is to go back to crating her, any suggestions on a crate that is a good size?  The one we have is just a little small and the next size we've seen is way too big.  We like the plastic carrier types.  Plus, with them being crated all day I worry they don't get enough water.

Sorry for the ramble, we are just at our wits end with her!

I leave our babies in the hall, with baby gates on all the doors so they can't go in the rooms. It gives them enough room to play, and their food and water are in there. It's our answer to crating, because I seriously hate doing then when they are left so long during the day (sometimes 10 hours because of work schedules). They NEVER pee in the hall... only in the hall bathroom when my daughter forgets to close it.

that would be great, but we don't have a hall with our floor plan, and the only thing that could be considered a "hall" would be a space smaller than our laundry room. Even if we put Petey in there, he seriously chews up the baseboards, so there is NO way to leave him out.

Does she go all over or is it more of a controlled area? Because if its the latter, what about going back to the potty pads or those synthetic grass patches?

Nope it's just random spots.
