Army wife

AAAAGH!!

Well, I just found out from the breeder, Michelle, that I now have to wait ONE MORE WEEK for Sophie's arrival. That's right folks. I have been doing nothing but preparing for her, reading books on puppies/Bostons, and endlessly chattering on about her, to the annoyance of my family and friends. August 20, her original arrival date, is also the day she turns 8 weeks old. Puppies cannot be shipped until that day (it's illegal). Michelle's vet said that he would not issue a health guarantee for her until she turns 8 weeks old. So obviously she cannot have the vet check and flight on the same day. So now I have to wait ANOTHER WEEK.

I am frustrated nearly to tears over this. Michelle wanted to throw in some incentive cause she thought I would cancel the deal, so I am getting free AKC papers out of it, but still.

But I have to think about the fact that this arrangement is better for Sophie. She will be one week older and one week stronger so that will be all the better for her when she has to deal with what I'm sure will be a very scary flight for her. I really hate that she will also be one week bigger, cause I wanted her as tiny as possible, but what can you do? She can't really get THAT much bigger in one week, even though according to the pictures Michelle has been sending she is growing incredibly fast. She's still a tiny girl though, relative to the rest of her littermates. So I guess I won't despair. The hardest thing about this situation will be the waiting. The days have been going by agonizingly slowly, and now I have to add seven more to the countdown. GRRRRRRR!!!!!!

Breathe, Lib....breathe.

BTW, this is the latest pic of her I just received a few moments ago....Michelle keeps stressing that she is very tiny, but does she look unhealthy to anyone? I don't mean to be paranoid but you never know....but I guess the health guarantee will assuage my fears.

Rascal the Great!

Heart worm pills

Lady Violet is about 9 months old now. I'm curious about heartworm prevention pills. When should a dog go on them? Rascal was on them all the time in Michigan because there were so many mosquitoes but I never gave him any pills in CA. I brought Violet to the vet a little over a month ago and they said nothing about putting her on it. No vet has ever said anything about it here actually in the five years I've had a dog here. What does everyone think- do dogs need to be on heartworm prevention pills in CA even though there are very few mosquitoes?

What's the best website to purchase dog drugs?

suspicious.....

Someone's comment on my last post got me thinking....I had said that I was getting free AKC papers in exchange for the inconvenience to me that waiting another week for Sophie is going to cause....the breeder felt bad so she offered me the AKC papers free of charge, when originally she offered them for an extra $50 and I declined. I accepted her free offer, but then this comment got me thinking. I checked out the guidelines for Boston breeders, but they had nothing to say on the sale of AKC papers. Does anyone know whether breeders are allowed to charge for them? I mean, know for SURE? I don't want to make a move on this unless I have some proof that she was actually not allowed to charge for them in the first place; if I get that proof, I will know she is an unethical breeder and I probably need to withdraw my sale. Thanks!

god bless you, mr. rosewater

Please welcome our newest pig-child, Pugsley Rosewater:

You can't tell by this picture, but he is horribly thin and desperately needs to get in better health.  His nails are so overgrown that they're curling under-- I'm on my way to Wal-Mart right now to pick up clippers. Oliver didn't warm to him in the 3 hour drive home from Texas, and since we've been here, he's tried to bite him twice. Danny uses this metaphor to describe their behavior:

There are two kids on a playground. One kid goes up to the other kid and says, "Hey, you wanna play basketball?" And the other kid screams, "SHUT THE FUCK UP!" :)

He usually does this for the first day with a new animal, and then warms up and plays and enjoys himself.  We're anxiously awaiting that occasion.  I hate seeing them with little hurt feelings.

We're going to give this poor brown baby a bath and then head down South. Thank you for being so supportive during our non-Boston phase. It's good to have another little pig in the house. I hope Ollie will learn to love him soon.

Rory in Flowers

(no subject)

Hi all,

I'm Ellen, mom of Alex and Alyson. I've had Bostons all my life. Currently, there are 3 at my house, a 9 1/2 year old brindle named Tuffy, who is Alex's dog, and who she fell in love with at Pet Pourri when she was in the 8th grade; a 1 1/2 year old red named Molly, who is Alyson's dog; and a 6 month old named Rory, who is my dog. Rory is the cousin of Rhu, who is Heather's dog.

Here's a picture of Rory. You can see her red color and green eyes. I'm told it is unusual that her eyes stayed green. Usually, they turn an amber color, but hers have kept the hazel/green tones.
