Sad news
So my fiancee got this message from the breeder today..

"Hi, Jason. I have some bad news.,.. My vet will not give me the health certificate.. Do to the new laws.. With the U.S and Canada.. It says that if you want to purchase a puppy from the U.S. u must purchase it from a USDA breeder which I am not.. and the puppy must at least be over 6-8 months to ensure the puppy is not carring rabies from the u.s to canada.. So u will have to either find a baby in canada or one in the u.s. from a USDA breeder.. I have forwarded back the 210 and the 309 u sent for the puppy via paypal.. I am sorry but I must follow the laws.. You and your family have a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Years..."

Needless to say, he's devastated. No boston baby for now.

I personally find the whole thing a little suspicious.

seems to be the woman is full of something. health certificate must come from APHIS accredited vet, I'm guessing it has nothing to do with the breeder not being USDA acredited(APHIS is USDA offshoot) but her vet not being acredited with APHIS.

will your pup be flying or driving? we got our boston from a US breeder when we were living in canada, and we had zero issues driving across the border with her (when we first got her, and many many times since!). the only thing they (sometimes) ask for is proof of rabies vaccination, and puppies under 3 months are exempt from that. if the puppy is being shipped from the breeder it might be a bit more complicated than that though.

however, i haven't heard about these "new laws" OR "USDA breeders." i'd ask the breeder to send you a link to these new laws - you can just say you want to research them!

If they gave you all the money back, then I don't see a problem, other than an inability to communicate in a professional fashion.

This woman does not sound super professional or reliable so maybe it is better you are not getting a boston from her anyways. Are there not many boston breeders in Canada?
