I thought that I'd share a collage that I made of my girl Lexy.  She has been my partner in crime for the past 10 years.

Unfortunately we have a vet appointment on Friday and we think that we will likely have to say goodbye.  She is showing signs of dementia.  She's not eating much, has lost her housebreaking, struggles to get up and down, has balance issues and falls constantly, gets lost around the house, and unfortunately the worst part is that she doesn't even recognize her name when we call her.  The vet tech said to prepare to say goodbye, although the vet is going to do a full exam and make sure that it is the right decision.

She has been such a fantastic pet.  I've always told people that owning a boston is nothing like owning any other dog.  They should be put into a class of their own.  She gave me so many great years and I just want to do what is best for her.  I don't want to see her struggle, and I don't want to keep her around suffering simply because I don't want to let her go.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers Friday.  If this is the right thing to do, then I am going to see her through it and stay right by her side until the end.  I almost feel like this is worse than losing a person.  Dogs love you unconditionally, no matter what you say or do.  Their hearts are so pure.

I want to thank those of you who are taking the time to read this.  I just needed an outlet.  <3

Aw, you've made me tear up. This decision is the hardest one in the world to make, but you are doing exactly what you should. Bostons are indeed in a class of their own. Thank you for sharing the collage of Lexy photos. I'm sure she's as grateful for your 10 years together as you are. I'll be thinking of both of you and sending comforting thoughts and prayers your way. Hang in there. <3

I am so sorry. That unconditional love makes it so much harder to say goodbye to a pet than a human.

So sorry to hear about Lexy's issues. I had a Chow that got in this condition and the whole family went to the vet with me. My heart goes out to you, but your thinking is very rational. I lost my first Boston last September to an accident. I cried for a week. The vet called me and a lady needed to find a home for a Boston ASAP, so I took her. It was a great decision. Thinking of you.
