The story behind Maggie's home coming.

As many of you know, our Boston terrier, Maggie had been missing since January 5. The past 40 days have been heartbreaking. We have been searching, putting flyers out and running an ad in the newspaper with her picture. Last night, Jimmy got a phone call from a lady who lived in Crestview, but worked in Fort Walton. She said she was driving home, and saw a dog walking against traffic, in the grass, headed in the direction of Fort Walton, by the airport. (About 8 miles from where we live) She owns a Boston also and she was concerned the dog would be hit walking along the busy road, so she pulled over and coaxed the dog into the car. She said when she got the dog in the car that she licked her in the face and the lady knew instantly that this dog belonged to someone. She took the dog home with her to Crestview, fed her and gave her a bath because she was filthy. She said she was planning on running an ad in the paper the next day, to find the owners.
Her son came home awhile later (who also works in FWB) and as his mom started telling him how she found this dog, the son said he had seen a flyer at a gas station with this dogs picture on it. The lady sent her son to he store to get a newspaper, and they saw our ad with her picture and she called our house. She told Jimmy she thought this was our dog she had found and she described her to him and asked what her name was. Jimmy said her name is Maggie and when the lady said –are you Maggie? She said that the dogs ears stood straight up. Jimmy said he would come there right now and see if it is her or not, but the lady said look lets just meet halfway. So Jimmy, Thomas, Justin and Molly and Allie all loaded up and went to meet her. When they lady pulled up and Maggie saw him, she went crazy! They were all so happy it was her, Maggie jumped on Justin and licked him like crazy. They had called me at work before they left to go meet the lady and I left early to be home when they got there. The lady would not accept the reward money Jimmy offered her, she said seeing her reunited with her family was reward enough for her, she would not even accept gas money, she said seeing Justin and Maggie together was all that she needed. They thanked her, again and again and then they loaded up to come home. Jimmy said that when they pulled on our street that Maggie started getting excited, like she knew she was really going home. I came home from work and she was there, she was happy to see me, and licked my face over and over, we all spent the evening just hanging out, she went from person the person licking us and we all told her how much we missed her. She seems to be healthy, although her nails were worn down, like maybe she walked awhile on cement. She is a bit thin, but other then that she seems ok. We are taking her to the vet, for a check up and to get micro chipped and make sure she not pregnant (although since she has been missing 40 days, we think she would show some signs of being pregnant and she’s not showing any signs) we also are going to also see about getting her fixed. Last night, my hubby and I were going to go out for a late dinner, but we opted to stay home and order pizza and have a family night. When it was time for bed, Maggie started in Thomas’s bed (the youngest) then went to Justin’s bed, then she ended up in our bed, snuggled in under the covers, right between me and hubby. We all went to sleep smiling and happy that our baby was home. It is still amazing; we have no idea where she was or what she has been doing for the 40 days she was missing. We will call it Maggie’s big adventure and there will never be a repeat. We have taken all the extra precautions to make sure none of the girls will be able to get out again. I didn’t even want to go to work today, I had to, but I really wanted to just stay home and hang out with the dogs. Yesterday was the best Valentine’s Day ever for my whole family! And Justin, who is “daddy’ to Maggie, will be 16 this Friday, I don’t think any gift will top having his baby home. Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers! And yes a picture is worth a thousand words. Here is Maggie giving Jimmy a face licking before bed last night. I think they both look happy.
